Marriage.. When?

This Jataka showed his birth chart to me to know about his Marriage. His parents were trying hard for his marriage for last couple of years but it was not getting materialized. The Chart has a “Kal-Sapra Yoga” and he feared that he will never get married. He was trying all the remedies and Shanti’s that were told to him by various Jyotishi’s.

Details are :

Birth Place – Ambethan near Chakan, Pune (73E49 and 18N46).
Birth Date: 29/11/1980 Birth time: 07:09AM

Ascendant : Scorpio 16.53.43

As the question is related to Marraige, we need to check 7th house sub-lord which is Saturn in this case. It is clear that there will be delay in marriage as Saturn is a sub-lord of 7th house.

Saturn in 10th house with its rasi’s in 3 and 4. Saturn in Moon Star and moon is signifies 9 (placed in 9 and is 9th house lord).

As per rule, since any of the 7, 11, 12 and 8th house are not signified the marraige cannot be confirmed, but in this case, Jupiter is in tight conjunction with Saturn and Jupiter.

Saturn in Virgo 14.05.45 and Jupiter also in Virgo  12.15.11

Jupiter signifies 10, 2 and 5

Hence, we can say that saturn also signifies 10, 2 and 5. Here 2nd house is favorable for marraige. Hence we can say that, marriage is promised to this Jataka with a delay.

Now, marriage when?

For this we need to check dasa. Current dasa is Moon/Mars. I took the help of Ruling Planet’s. It was 09.50.09PM of 29/1/2010 at Nashik and rulings were:

LS: Sun
L: Mercury (Conj. with Rahu)
S: Saturn (Ret)
R: Moon
D: Venus (Rahu in Venus Star)

Bhukti lord mars is not present in Ruling, hence I we can skip its bhukti. Next bhukti is of Rahu who is present in Ruling twice. So I selected Moon/Rahu/Rahu  as a period for marriage.

Moon/Rahu/Rahu period is from 14/4/2010 to 05/7/2010

Next step is to find Sun’s transit in this period. Sun is enters venus sign taurus from 16th May 2010.

Sun’s transit as follows:

Sun in Venus sign and Sun star from 16th may to 25th May.
NOTE: After Sun it enters in Moon star but since Sun has Higher weightage than moon in RP, I’ve consider Sun star in Venus Sign.
If one looks at the Ruling Planet’s we have Mercury which is likely to give atleast 2 dates for event. But Saturn is with Venus which is a Rajyog and as per rule the event will occur in first period without delay.

I’ve already used Moon, and Rahu (twice) and as per rule we cannot use Planets in ruling more than once. Hence I skipped Moon and Rahu. Also as saturn is retrograde it will not fructify the event. Hence I decided to consider the next immediate transit of Sun in Venus/Sun/Mercury which is on 21st May 2010.

Hence I announced that marriage will take place on 21st May 2010.

After few days, Jataka confirmed me that, they had a favourable response from on Girl’s family and the marriage is fixed. The Guruji from Girl’s family gave Marriage date as 21/5/2010.

Thanks to Guruji His holyness Sri Krishnamurthyji for inventing this beautiful and most accurate system in astrology.

Remedy for those fearing Shani Saadesaati

If you fear Shani saadesaati, following is the remedy:
a. Don’t give false commitments.
b. Don’t talk about your projects/business plans/tasks in hand/work that you are completing to a person who is not related to it. Even not your wife. If you do so, be assured that for any weired reason it will get postponed or not get fulfilled
c. Don’t lie and don’t rise othes expectations.. and as its not possible in day to day life avoid talking much.
d. Don’t go to Shani. if you wan’t to worship, worship maruti on wednesday, but avoid going to temple where shani is also worshiped. REASON: Shani don’t like maska-polishi.

e. Don’t plan ahead/don’t day-dream on any projects that are due to complete. either project will not get complete or either you will not get payment in time but for any reason your dreams/plans will fail.

Shani is a planet who stops whatever comes in its way. It will reduce the effect of other planets. In sadesati, shani is connected with moon. Moon is a planet that rules heart/mind. So in sadesati, whatever you think gets communicated to shani, and then it becomes its duty to stop you from day-dreaming and show you the reality of life.

If in your birth chart if moon is any how connected to shani, or vice-versa then consider it as a sadesati for life time and follow above rules for life very strictly.

Astrology and Diseases – Neurofibromatosis, a rare genetic disorder

Female Jataka from Pune is suffering  from this rare disease called Neurofibromatosis.

Lets first understand what is this disease:

Synonyms

neurofibroma, multipleneurofibromatosis-pheochromocytoma-duodenal carcinoid syndromePeripheral neurofibromatosisRecklinghausen’s phakomatosisVon Recklinghausen’s diseaseVon Recklinghausen’s neurofibromatosisNF1

Disorder Subdivisions

segmental neurofibromatosis

General Discussion

Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1), also called von Recklinghausen’s disease, is a rare genetic disorder characterized by the development of multiple noncancerous (benign) tumors of nerves and skin (neurofibromas) and areas of abnormally decreased or increased coloration (hypo- or hyperpigmentation) of the skin. Areas of abnormal pigmentation typically include pale tan or light brown discolorations (cafe-au-lait spots) on the skin of the trunk and other regions as well as freckling, particularly under the arms (axillary) and in the groin (inguinal) area. Such abnormalities of skin pigmentation are often evident by one year of age and tend to increase in size and number over time.

Jataka’s Chart:

neurofibromatosis-chart neurofibromatosis-chart

Major diseases in Jataka’s  life are analysed from 6th house in Birth chart. In the above chart 6th house sub-lord is Rahu, which itself is a malefic planet. Rahu is placed in 11th house with close conjunction of Neptune and Uranus.

Rahu is in Constellation of Venus (Genital organs, beauty, skin disorders). Venus is placed in 6th house (Genital organs/groin) lord of 4th (chest) and 9th (thighs). Venus in conjunction with Mars (fiery planet) in 6th house. Mars also denotes operation. This Jataka was operated for tumor growth in Groin area in july 2010.

Rahu is in Dhanu Rasi whose lord is Jupitor. Jupitor is a large planet hence denotes, growth in any result. In question of disease, it denotes cancer like conditions, abnormal growth of tissues, tumor, warts, lumps, swelling. Jupitor is again placed in 6th house in Cancer Rasi.

Jupitor in Mercury Constellation (multiple times the event will occur – in this case multiple tumors, Skin, nervous system). Mercury is again placed in 6th house (nervous disorder) with its rasi’s in 5th and 8th house. Mercury is in conjunction with Venus and Mars. Mercury + Mars yuti (conjunction) results in skin disorders.

Jupitor and Sun (planet for health, vitality) are afflicted by Saturn. Saturn is in direct opposition of Sun. Saturn’s affliction has reduced the vitality of Jataka. Sun in Cancer Rasi and its lord Moon is in close conjunction(Yuti) with Saturn. This has also affected the RASA’s (Body fluids).

Saturn relation with Moon is also considered as most bad Yoga as per Shri KSK. This yoga is called PUNARAFOO yoga, which means, similar type of incidents occur repeatedly in Jataka’s life and Jataka has to start his life all over again from zero.

You can see from above, how Birth chart (if details are correct) and Horary charts can show the disease very accurately. It needs some patience and a very detailed analysis of the chart, to understand these.

Astrology can be used to confirm the disease and possible method of medications can also be suggested through the analysis of Natal and Horary charts.

Remember, Astrology cannot cure the disease but can be sometimes helpful in finding the nature of the disease as well as possible medication methods, that will be helpful to Jataka’s. Astrology cannot replace the medicinal science, but can aid it.

World cup Winner Prediction using RP

Friends, yesterday I felt urge to check result of India v/s Australia cricket match. Instead of erecting Horary chart, I decided to take help of Ruling planets.

My options were: 1) India 2) Australia

Ruling Planets were

L – Mars   (9)

S – Saturn (21)

R – Mars    (9)

D – Merc   (9)

No planets in Ret Star. Total of RP numbers is 48 = 12 = 3. Since options are only 2 we need to deduct it from total so 3-2 = 1

The result was, India will win the match. As you all know, India won the match and entered semi-finals.

After the match results, as one of the best team which was the preferred choice for World Cup winner, is out of World Cup,  I thought of checking  possibility of new World Cup Winner. This time again I took the help of RP, as this divine guidance never fails, if urge is true.

Since we always take our team on 1st option I put the team names randomly and my list of possible winners were:

Sri LankaEnglandIndiaPakistanSouth AfricaNew Zealand

Ruling Planets were taken on 25th March 2011 at 10.06.30 AM in Nashik (73.46 E, 19.59 N). Ruling planets were:

L – Venus  (9)

S – Merc   (9)

R – Mars  (9)

D – Venus (9)

No planets in Ret Star. RP total is 36 = 9, since we have 6 options, we need to subtract number of options from RP single digit reduced number. Hence, 9-6 = 3 is our final choice of World Cup Winner.

In our options list, India is on 3rd place so we can predict that India will win this world cup.

who will win the cricket match?

In IPL-20-20 for 2010, on 30th March 2010 the match is scheduled between Mumbai Indians and Kings Eleven Punjab. We were interested in the winner of the match.

This problem was solved using KP Numerology based on Ruling Planets of 29/3/2010 at 4:23:20 PM Pune.

The choices were: 1. Mumbai India, 2. Knights Eleven Punjab
Ruling Planets were:
L: Sun
S: Sun
R: Mercury
D: Moon
Total of:
Signs of Sun(L) – Simha – 5
+ Sign of Sub(S) – Simha – 5
+ Signs of Mercury(R) – Mithun – 3
+ Kanya – 6
+ Signs of Moon(D) – Karka – 4

Hence, Total of 5+5+3+6+4 = 23, 2+3 = 5.

As we have only 2 choices, we will divide the result by 2 and we will get the remainder 1.

Hence our obvious choice of winner for the match will be Mumbai Indians.

Result: In a heart throbbing match, Mumbai Indians won the match in last over by 4 Wickets.

Will I get transferred out of Pune?

This question was asked by Male Jataka on 20/6/2003 in Pune. Time was 8:45PM. I asked him to concentrate on the question and give KP number between 1 to 249. So he gave 133.

I erected Horary chart for KP number 133 at 8:49PM.

transfer from pune

Rule:

CSL of 10th house is not retrograde, and its star lord is also not retrograde. Also if it signifies 3rd house then transfer is promised. Also at the same time if Dasa Lord is also strong significator of 3rd house, than Jataka will be transferred to another city.

In the chart, 10th house CSL is Mars. Mars in 4th house and is lord of 2nd and 7th house. Mars in Star of Rahu, so we need to see Rahu’s significance.

Rahu placed in 7. Rahu is aspected by Mars and Mars signifies 4 | 2,7 as seen above.
Rahu is conjuncted by none. Rahu is in star of Ravi 8 | 11
Rahu in Venus Rasi, and venus 8 | 1, 8 star lord Moon 5 | 10

As we can see, 3rd house is not indicated, hence we can say that transfer is not promised for this Jataka. But we also need to analyse Dasa.

At that time, running dasa for the chart was, jupitor – mercury – mercury.

Jupitor in 10th house lord of 3 and 6. Jupitor in star of  Mercury placed in 8th house (tension, stress) and lord of 9 and 12.

Antardasa lord Mercury 8 | 9 , 12 in star of  Moon placed in 5th house and lord of 10th house.

Vidasa Lord Mercury same as above.

It seems that the present bhukti is strong significator of 10th house and also 10th CSL in horary chart signifies 10th and 11th house. These house denotes Promotion in job.

Hence we concluded that the Jataka will not get transferred outside Pune and is likely to get promoted.

Result: This Jataka was transferred and promoted to a very important post in Pune itself.

Jul 20, Astrology Basics - Planets

Astrological Planets - The Sun The Sun   Wherever the Sun is in a chart, that area is brightly illuminated. The Sun in a person’s chart often represents the person’s self-image and how they reinforce that self-image. When someone says they are a particular Sign, they are usually referring to their Sun Sign (the Sign the Sun was in when they were born). The Sun is usually considered the single most important Planet in a chart.

Astrological Planets - The Moon The Moon   Usually considered second only to the Sun in importance (and sometimes considered more important), the Moon represents a person’s emotional nature. While the Sun may represent how a person thinks about or sees him or herself, the Moon represents a person’s “gut reactions.” The Moon can also describe the relationship between the native and his or her mother.

Astrological Planets - Mercury

Mercury   The fastest-moving Planet, Mercury shows how a person communicates and reasons. Mercury can also indicate how the person deals with change.

Astrological Planets - Venus Venus   The Planet of love and beauty, Venus often talks about what makes the person comfortable. Venus can show how a person experiences romance, as well as the things in life the person is inclined to value (or “love”). In a man’s chart, Venus will often show how he views women, and what kind of impact women will have on his life.

Astrological Planets - Mars Mars   The Planet of action, Mars indicates how a person gets what he or she wants, as well as how the person deals with stress. In a woman’s chart, Mars will often show how she views men, and what kind of impact men will have on her life.

Astrological Planets - Jupiter Jupiter   This Planet represents a person’s free lunch. Wherever Jupiter is in a person’s chart, that person will tend to enjoy good luck and easy success in that area. Occasionally, Jupiter can represent overexpansion or overindulgence.

Astrological Planets - Saturn Saturn   This is the Planet of limitations and responsibility. Wherever Saturn is in a person’s chart, it will indicate where the person has to show up and be responsible, where they have to “get serious” if they want to succeed. Sometimes, Saturn represents a major obstacle in the person’s life. Saturn can also describe the relationship between the native and his or her father.

Astrological Planets - Uranus Uranus   The Great Awakener, Uranus is the Planet of unpredictability. Wherever Uranus is in a person’s chart, abrupt changes and opportunities to learn from experience will manifest in that area.

Astrological Planets - Neptune Neptune    Wherever Neptune is in a person’s chart, it shows where in life the person tends to navigate by intuition rather than by reason. Neptune’s Aspects—the relationships between Neptune and other elements of the chart—are especially important in discerning Neptune’s influence, because they can show when and how far intuition should be trusted.

Astrological Planets - Pluto Pluto   The Planet of death and transformation, Pluto indicates where negotiation and compromise do not work for the person, or where the person has to change something fundamental in his or her life.

These are the ten Planets almost every modern astrologer works with. Even though astronomically, Pluto has lost it's planet status, it's still used by astrologers as a planet.

There is a lot more that could be said about any—and all—of them. This article is meant only to provide a brief glimpse—a “taste”—of each.

Also, it is important to note that there are other elements—other ingredients—some astrologers prefer to have pictured in a chart, which occupy the same area in the chart as the Planets.

These can include planetoids (Chiron), asteroids (Hera, Athena, etc.), fixed stars (Arcturus, Rigel, etc.), Planets that have not been discovered by astronomers (Zeus, Poseiden, etc.), even Positions...points in the chart with no physical reference such as the Lunar Nodes or Arabic Parts (the Part of Fortune being the most commonly used).

I bring these up simply to let the reader be exposed to the terms, and know that all of these are beyond the basics that are necessary to read a natal chart (and also to give readers who are interested in a more in-depth study of astrology further starting points).

The next article will talk about the final class of distinct ingredients in a chart: The Houses and their Cusps.

Why astrology is not a science?

Why astrology is not a science?

Eyebrows raised? read the question again.

There are mis-beliefs more than beliefs about astrology. But still people visit astrologers for solutions on their problems when all other scientific methods fail. These mis-beliefs starts from the moment they read their birth horoscope casted by some family astrologer or printout taken from some astrology software in a cybercafe, that has predictions about one’s life. When people compare these pages with their real-life events and understand that events happened in their life does not matches with their birth horoscope, its natural for them to come to this conclusion that Astrology is not a science and more over its not perfect at all. But then one should think about this again.

If its not a science then why it has lasted for so many centuries. Nothing is immortal in this world. The things, technology, culture, lifestyle, fashion that does not fits in this world, which is not perfect has not lasted for so long. Even scientific theories that were considered correct were proven wrong afterwards and were changed. If astrology is not a science and perfect in its sense, then how it has survived for so long?

A patient dies in the hospital in spite of good medical treatment. Cause may be, doctor’s mis-diagnosis of a disease, his mental and physical health not supportive for medicines and treatment or may be no cure has been found till date for the disease. But then nobody blames the Medicinal Science. People blame the doctor or the company that manufactured the drug or the management of the hospital but have you heard anybody saying that this science of life, drug, medicine is fake and its not a science at all?

No!

Then if some Jyotishi’s (astrologer’s) prediction fails then how a complete Astrology can be wrong and blamed for. Actually its the astrologer who has failed and not the astrology. The reasons of failure can be wrong methods, wrong data used to calculate and cast horoscope, or even the timings could be wrong.

All technologies, sciences are based on maths. Maths is also behind drug formulation and genetics. Its behind aeroplanes, cars, space shuttles. Even a planet (Pluto) was discoverd only on the basis of maths. After deciding its location, based on mathematical computation, it was accurately seen at that location from telescopes. Similarly, maths is the core of astrology. Without mathematical computation one cannot erect/cast a correct horoscope. Panchang’s (Ephimeries) used in erecting horoscopes perfected with the help of mathematical calculations only. “Aynamsha” used to convert sayan charts to nirayan charts is nothing but the speed with which Axis of the earth is declining each year and is mathematically computed correctly. Rahu, Ketu are considered as the nodes in Astrology, and they are are defined as the intersection points between axis of rotation of earth and axis or rotation of moon.

If Astrology is based on Maths and Astronomy, then how can one say that this is not a science. I agree that, similar to other scientific theories required more research and were perfected or agreed upon by the masses only after thorough research, further research is required in Astrology as well. But, very few mathematicians and modern highly educated scholars, do this.

Let me give you one present day example. A research is going on, on a BIG-BANG theory by spending enormous amount of money and human efforts. But, consider the fact that still Big-BANG is just a theory and not a proven reality. When people are willing to spend so much money and efforts just to check whether, this theory is correct or not, why occult science like Astrology is left aside?

In my next post I’ll try to present my thoughts on “Why horoscopes give wrong predictions?” or “Why Astrologer fails?”

I also request your comments and views on this subject matter.

thanks and regards

Desire of second child..

When i was in Nashik for a holiday, one of my mother’s friend asked me about her Sister staying in Patna. Her sister wanted a second child but there wish was not getting fulfilled for a long time. I told her that let her sister ask me this question on phone and then I’ll do astrological analysis of it. She did as I told and her sister asked me this question next day.

I returned back to Pune and after some days, when I got time, I erected the time chart for her question. The date was 31st January 2005 and time was 10:09 AM. The analysis of the chart is as follows:

In horary chart, cancer is in 5th house, signifying her wish of motherhood. Also moon placed in 7th house depicts second child (3rd from 5th). Hence the chart signifies her strong wish for motherhood and second child.Ascendant is Pisces and ascendant lord Jupitor placed in 7th house is aspecting ascendant. Strong Ascendant fulfills wish.Sub-lord of 5th house is Mercury is in Sun star. Mercury and Sun both placed in 11th. Hence Mercury is strong significator of 11th (fulfillment of Desires).Mercury is aspecting 5th house and Jupitor (significator of motherhood) is also aspecting mercury and 11th house with his 5th Aspect.Jupitor placed in 7th house (second child)Mercury is also sub-lord of 11th house (fulfillment of desires and gains)

Above points in the chart strongly signify that She will be blessed with second child as desired.

Child When? That can be predicted by studying the Dasa’s.

Mahadasa Lord Moon signify 7, 5. Moon in self star. Its sub-lord Venus in Sun star and Sun is placed in 11th house. As moon is placed in self star, he is strong significator of 7th (second child) and 5th (motherhood) houses. Also Jupitor is in conjunction with Moon. Jupitor and Moon both placed in 7th house. Jupitor is placed in Mars Star and Mars is significator of 2nd (family) house due to Mars sign at 2nd house.

Hence it can be concluded that Child birth will happen in Moon Dasa. Moon Dasa ends 1/1/2006.

Before proceeding further I took ruling planets on 11:36AM and they were as follows:

Asc. Star =  Ketu,L = Mars ( rahu in mars sign)S = MoonR = MercuryD = Moon

First Antardasa is of Venus, but since, Venus was not present in ruling and also Venus was significator of 6th (loss for 7th house), I ignored it.

Next Antardasa is of Sun and Sun placed in 11th house. Sun is placed in Shravan Star of Moon (care taking child) and Moon is strong significator of 5th and 7th. Jupitor from 7th house is aspecting Sun and 11th house. As Sun is strongly signifying Child and Motherhood, I decided to took Sun, although it was not present in the Ruling.

Sun Antardasa from 1/7/2005 to 1/1/2006

Now for Vidasa, I had to select either of Mars or Rahu and Ketu, as these were in Ruling. As per KP, nodes are stronger than planets.
Mars is in 9th house and its Signs are at 2nd and 9th house. Mars is placed in Ketu Star. Ketu in 7th house and in Venus sign. Venus in Sun star signifying 11th house. Dasa period (25/7/2005 to 6/8/2005).
Mars and Ketu signify operation, abortion.

Next vidasa is of Rahu also in Ketu Star and significator of 7,2 and 11. Rahu is also present in ruling as Rahu is in the sign of Mars. Rahu Vidasa starts from 5/8/2005 till 1/9/2005

Selected Vidasa’s

Moon – Sun – Rahu – Mercury: 17/8/2005 to 21/8/2005
Moon – Sun – Rahu – Ketu: 21/8/2005 to 23/8/2005

Since mercury is present in Ruling and also sub-lord of 5th and 11th house, we got two periods. Also I was surprised with such a short time period as ideally 9 months are required for child birth. Hence I decided to look at Moons transit and I got the answer.

Transiting Moon will be in Sagittarius on 5/6 February. There it will be in conjunction with Mars in the chart (Moon + Mars = Menses). But there it is aspected by 7th Aspect of Retrograde Saturn. Hence She will miss it. Also on 7th February, Moon will transit from Saturn sign Capricorn and will be in 11th house and their it will be aspected by 5th aspect of Jupitor (significator of motherhood).

This created a doubt that Jataka must me pregnant when I erected this chart. So I called he sister in Nashik and told her to confirm if her sister is pregnant already. She was unaware of this so she called her sister in Patna ad to her surprise her sister said that today she got the report from doctor saying that her pregnancy test is positive.

I told her sister in Nashik about the two dasa periods of mars and rahu where she should take extra precautions and care about her and her childs health and ended the call.

Colours of Canadian Federal Elections 2011

This election appears to be all about which leader and the platform seems secondary. There has been little information about the other candidates, other than those caught doing something… On a purely subjective front, I must say I was most impressed with Elizabeth May, when she was interviewed by CBC. What a breath of fresh air… Ironically I received two voter cards, so perhaps the Universe is saying I can have my say twice. So I thought I’d take one last look at the chart for the vote to bring down the government and the one for closing of the polls on Election Day. The short version is that everything thus far indicates a minority government with some potentially significant shift in the number of seats.

On Election we still have half the planets opposing Saturn for Harper from Aries the challengers, Mars in Aries is in charge of the gang. Uranus for Layton has advanced rapidly since the election was called, and is well placed (at 2°50’ of Aries and in the 6th house of service and hard work, in the triplicity of the Sun (for the leader), which is in steady Taurus and in the bounds of Jupiter representing increase. So chances are Layton will gain ground; maybe even significantly—might even be enough to shock the pollsters.

So let’s begin by looking at Layton’s planet—Uranus; his recent rise in popularity is surprising most politicos, which is a concept right up Uranus’ alley. Layton talks about choice in his primary message, and that might be more of a Uranus (+Jupiter) concept. And on April 26, the headlines talked about Layton revisiting the signing of constitution by Quebec, which we know to be a separatist province, Uranus does rule separation from unions. This simply re-enforces my choice of planet for him. Uranus is in Aries and has advanced fairly speedily over the past five weeks. The unrest swelled and escalated in North Africa after Uranus moved into Aries; Uranus is the planet associated with rebellion but also with surprising turns of events, and in Aries potentially a different direction. So Uranus will be accountable to the Sun and in the bounds of Jupiter. So potentially not the main job but increase in seats is highly likely; and it may shock us all.

Jupiter is the planet I chose for Ignatieff for a variety of reasons; it opposes Saturn for Harper, and echoes his career choice as a professor/educator/intellectual before turning politician (not a career one, if we pay attention to the latest TV commercial). Ignatieff’s message is represented by Jupiter, the planet associated with expansion, higher education and moral ethics (natural keywords for the planet). Jupiter is in Aries on Election Day as well, ruled by the Mars in its own sign of Aries—thus putting in a feisty fight. Jupiter has advanced very fast and has now reached the position Mercury held on March 25. So he got his message across about why the non-confidence vote was necessary but the new information didn’t have enough air time. Jupiter is joining the well-positioned Mars, which reports to the Sun from a position of strength. Jupiter is also in the sixth house of service and has dropped behind…and didn’t quite reach that Mars…this does not bode well for him winning his wish of being the PM.

I googled Elizabeth May, and found that she was born June 9, 1954 in Hartford, Connecticut and became a Canadian citizen in 1978. So I have added green to the colour dial… she just might win her seat. She is a Gemini sun with several planets in Cancer… and her Mars is exalted in Capricorn—what strength. In the event charts I thought I decided that she was represented by idealistic Neptune. Neptune by election time has changed signs—this might give her that coveted seat in the Parliament.

Harper’s message is clearly represented by Saturn, controlled and conservative (natural keywords for the planet). On the day of the election, Saturn is in its sign of exaltation, Libra, moving backwards i.e. strong but losing ground. It is influenced by Venus in Aries, which is the detriment of the planet—not great. Venus takes her cues from Mars in Aries, where Mars helps put in a good fight. Saturn has just risen above the horizon on Election Day; it is in its own triplicity, which spells lucky and in the bounds of slow Mercury, which might spell that Harper didn’t get enough momentum going to get his wish. Saturn has strong opposition, thus it won’t be an easy alliance…

On Election Day at close of polls, the Sun is in charge of the top job and has pulled away from the pack…so potentially enough seats to win, but chances are the vote splitting is amazing this go-around. The connection between the Saturn and the Sun is a tenuous one, which might suggest there is a new leader for the official opposition… Voters are represented by the Moon, which didn’t reach the Sun either, suggesting that a majority was not granted by the voters.

The chart on the left is the non-confidence vote. There is a gang of planets opposing Saturn in Libra. In this chart the ASC, i.e. the Sun would represent the person presenting the non-confidence vote. The exalted Sun in Aries is flanked by Uranus and Jupiter, so with the support of the other opposition parties. I chose to circle the planets with the party colour coding following the logic of my previous analysis of the candidates charts, however I had to leave the Greens out because I have no information on Elizabeth May, if I had to make an educated guess, I would likely choose Venus/Neptune for her—it is with Neptune in the March vote chart and she was left out of the National debates…In the March 25 chart cast for 14:18 in Ottawa, the Moon’s final aspect is to Neptune, which is about to change signs… moving into a better sign—Pisces, which would represent higher ideals. Moon was out of bounds at the time so unable to make other connections, and the Moon is on the move to a sign that is worse for her from a mundane astrology perspective.

Seeing that the Moon’s previous bodily aspect was to Saturn in Libra, I do suspect that there were meetings where agreements about a course of action depending on different scenarios. The connection of the Moon representing the public is moving to form a union with the Node, thus the public might want a change in direction, and the voter turnout might be bigger than expected. Mercury of communication was hugging the highest point, ready to change direction. Canadians have wiped out parties in the past… our national Moon is in Gemini and we as a collective tend to change our minds as to what direction is important to us.

Might there be some kind of tie between the leaders or the parties. The Sun on Election Day represents the PM, whoever that might be…on the day the government fell, the Sun represented the presenter of the non-confidence vote. The Sun has pulled away from the pack…and there is a dark of the Moon. The Moon hasn’t caught up to the Sun, which might be a message that the voters didn’t support the leaders enough to guarantee a majority.

Even this logic leads to a coalition government. The only one of the three planets with extra dignity is Saturn, thus I must assume that Harper gets the first kick at the can.  We might see yet another election in about 2.5 years… no clear winners here. There is a subtle mutual reception between the Sun and Venus… the Greens might get a seat or two.

Gemini, butterflies and Mars in Gemini

I just posted a column about Gemini and Mars in Gemini at www.astrologicallyspeaking.com/Gemini2011.htm — it is a rerun of a column I wrote in 2003. The horoscopes in it are updated. “Geminis are like butterflies fluttering from flower to flower, always looking for new tastes and new experiences; breezy and blithe not allowing life to stagnate as that fosters boredom. Majority or Coalition

Coalition is a Venus concept, because it is about the ability to co-operate. Ignatieff has Venus with Mars in Aries, the sign that wants to go it alone. Think of Sinatra’s song “I did it my way”.  The pair of planets falls into the first house for Canada, indicating that he believes he is able to be the voice of Canadians. He is a Taurus Sun, just like Harper and both men also have the Moon in Aquarius. Venus is in charge of the sign Taurus. I don’t see him really wanting to form a coalition; he wants to be in charge. At the time he was declared the leader of the Liberals, Juno the contract-maker was influenced by Pluto of control, power and hostile take-overs. Now that same energy is being influence by rebellious Uranus, and if he fails to meet the expectations of winning his majority, not a coalition, I think he will walk away.

Harper has his Venus in Gemini, close to the Venus in Canada’s chart. Gemini is an adaptable and flexible sign, less so when we remember the tenacity and obstinacy that are strong traits in a Taurus person. He would form a coalition more readily, as his planets strongly tap into the innate energy is the national chart for Canada. He would adjust in order to have the country on secure economic footing. Harper’s contract maker is in Libra, the sign of co-operation, which is currently under the influence of Saturn, which would spell out that he would form a coalition but under duress. If he ended up with a coalition, I suspect he might pull away from his leadership role within a year or so.

Venus in the chart of Canada is in Gemini and part of that problematic yod in our chart. It will work in co-operation as long as the ideals are met and the end result increases our treasury, but only when between a rock and a hard place.

At the election call, Venus was with idealistic Neptune in the sign that represents the masses… By the time the election takes place Venus and Mars will be together in Aries, the sign that wants to go it alone…

Harper’s Venus is with Canada’s Venus and his Mercury is with our Neptune—these are the legs of Canada’s yod. On Election Day the majority is in Aries, the Moon and Sun with Harper’s Sun… it is the dark of the Moon just before the New Moon the next day. The majority of the planets oppose Harper’s agreement maker (Juno) suggesting he won’t be making an agreement or forming a coalition. Could leap in two different directions with this statement, he will lose his advantage or win his majority.

Ignatieff’s Venus-Mars pair will be joined up by the Jupiter-Mars pair on Election Day. The Venus-Mars in Aries suggest an ardent need to bring about change. Jupiter-Mars in transit is about resolutions, settlement of conflicts and rebellion against partnership differences.

I am looking at how the energy of the two potential Prime Ministers connects with Canada’s chart and how this might play out and naturally I need to discuss ethics and the planets that reflect that in astrological chart. So once again, more later…

Little forward momentum Federal Election

When the election was called, the planet of communication and negotiations was getting ready to change direction having reached 23° Aries. It occupied the highest point in the chart of the moment, on that Friday afternoon. Aries is the sign that deals the best with moving forward and of course, aggressive, non-conciliatory and heated debate. Since the end of March the motion has been backward and the next change is not until April 23.

I watched an agonizing two hours of the National Leaders’ debate in English (don’t speak French), which I quite frankly saw as a shouting match. Unfortunately with so many planets in Aries and only Saturn in co-operative Libra as an astrologer I should have expected exactly that. The debate portion of the event was lost and with it an opportunity to engage the audience, who after all are each spending $10 per Canadian on the Election Process. The planetary power during the campaign and on Election Day continues to be heavily weighted in Aries. Aries has some wonderful qualities, but on the negative front it ramrods its way onto the scene, throws caution to the wind and then deals with what it finds rather than plans to set an agenda. Aries is the scrapper, willing to engage in a fight without too much preparation. Expediency is important and in terms of advertising, it is like those commercials, which say that my product is better than the leading brand.

So if we take Mercury to be the election talk, he is pulling backward symbolically returning to what was. The Moon is the public opinion and the pulls away by May 2 not quite reaching the Sun, which naturally would be the leading contender. Might the public throw its support behind status quo but not quite within allowing Harper to form a majority?

During this campaign Mercury will have been travelling the same ‘landscape’ at length—forwards and backwards—will anything change? Mercury will be together with Venus, making a connection to Harper’s Mercury and Canada’s Neptune.  Was it all in vain?

I have talked about Ignatieff and Harper and the prominent Aries energy in the two men, and I also wrote two peas in a pod back in 2008. For Harper logical Mercury is in Aries, which would appear well equipped to speak to what he thinks Canadians want, however, his Mercury is with his South Node, so he will always address his past record. Harper came across very controlled during the debate with his Saturn is in its own sign of Capricorn; he played a very Saturnine, responsible and calm role. He stuck to his script; looked straight at the camera’s and was rather inanimate. After five years of watching him we didn’t expect him to be different.

Saturn is in Libra will remain opposite Harper’s Mercury throughout this campaign and he will be challenged primarily about fairness, playing by the laws and his personal ethics; or more so about whether he is playing fair and in an inclusive manner. The question is whether he is responsible, and can he play nice with the others. Saturn in Libra is all about balance, harmony and equitability. From that perspective it was interesting to hear the comment, that the Conservatives treat all of the provinces equitably. I was expecting him to use more words that belong to Saturn, such as responsibility, reality, etc.

Ignatieff’s chart is primarily about Jupiter, and that’s what we see and hear, a professor promising money for education and questioning Harper about his ethics. Ignatieff’s Aries planets are Venus and Mars together. There is strong passion and desire in this combo to be the number one and Aries is also known for its short attention span. Mercury reached his Venus-Mars by the end of March; the press he heard at the time might have convinced him that he can become the Prime Minister. His Mercury however is in Taurus—being quick to respond from a logical perspective is not his natural strength. Taurus is deliberates, contemplates and he potentially has many moments when he knows what he should have said. His Mercury of speech is opposite Jupiter in Scorpio, so he is more likely to promise things he cannot deliver (and knows this). Venus and Mars are in charge of his communication style and when pushed he will say what is expedient rather than what he really thinks. Ignatieff has his North Node is in Gemini, ruled by that ponderous Mercury thus he might think that he can talk himself into any position, and maybe he can.

On the day of the Election, expansive and convicted Jupiter and aggressive Mars will be together in Aries with Ignatieff’s Venus and Mars. It marks a start of something big for him… could it be a win or a post to another important position.

By the election the only ones to have pulled away from the strong pack of planets will be the Sun and the Moon, both will be in Taurus close to Harper’s Sun at about 9 Taurus. Harper’s birthday falls just two days prior to the election. Ignatieff, who is also a Taurus, will turn 64 on May 12, and the two pull- a-ways don’t reach the degree of his Sun.

Layton’s party has the least seats of the three majors, so is in an underdog position. He is a Cancer Sun individual with his Mercury in Leo. He has a Mars-Neptune pair in Libra more or less opposite Canada’s Neptune. Wonder if Canadians would prefer that he lead the official opposition? His Venus hugs Canada’s Moon and he really does care about what Canadians want. Based on just the connections, he would make the ideal opposition leader, keeping the others on track and addressing issues. Layton’s chart does top into the collective energies from a different perspective to that of the two Taureans. However, on Election Day the energies do little to encourage big gains—however I suspect these might be significant from some perspective that I cannot put a clear description upon. The Moon will be on Jack Layton’s Vesta exactly on the day. Vesta represents service without complaints and I expect people recognize or reward Jack for something on the day. So my speculation is that he will gain ground, not by becoming the prime minister but being able to broker deals powered by stronger voter support.

Well we have three contenders, and none of them have the charisma of Pierre Trudeau, who Libra Sun basked in our 7th house and whose energies tapped into the power to change and grow in our national chart. Incidentally his time of birth was 7:03 AM, October 18, 1919 in Outremont, Canada.

By the time the Election Day is upon us Jupiter and Mars will have reached that degree and Mercury will only hold a position it held March 19, when we knew the Electional call was merely a matter of time. On May 9th we will have Mercury at that seemingly crucial degree; might it take until then to declare who gets to form the government—perhaps recounts galore.

Jupiter in Taurus

Jupiter moves into Taurus June 4, 2011. I just posted a column with individual horoscopes on my website, find it at www.astrologicallyspeaking.com/JupiterTaurus.htm

Amidst all the earth changes, it is nice to concentrate on some beneficial energy. It is also nice to see the pragmatic, solid Earth energy gain some influence. My at a Glance for 2012 is hot off the presses and I will be posting a link to the sidebar in the next few days. For now it is featured at my website http://www.astrologicallyspeaking.com/

Harper, Ignatieff and Canada’s chart

The rhetoric is heating up, the advertising campaigns are difficult to avoid on Canadian networks. Not quite below the belt but… and then on the news the same sound bites and media clips on each channel. I don’t follow tweets, twitters, etc but assume that the same 140 characters are going out from each source. I have been driving around Surrey and Langley in the past week, there are prominent (big), and blue roadside signs for the Conservatives and lots of smaller orange signs for the NDP candidates. I have no idea who the Liberal candidates for the four ridings near our house are —the signs are absent from the landscape—the only red signs are for real estate agents. Incidentally there are no signs for Green party candidates’ either.

I am going over charts with a fine-toothed comb, the first one is that for Canada and where the emphasis is and what integrated patterns are formed. In our chart the Moon and Mercury (shown in light grey) don’t form major connections, thus are not particularly well integrated into our national identity. Thus they operate without input from the other planetary energies.

The blue planets belong to Harper, and we can see at a glance how his planets connect closely with those in our national chart. What is interesting to observe is that Harper’s planet of responsibility sits at the top of our chart; the position of the leader, manager or boss. The polls tracking this election campaign measure who Canadians would prefer as the manager of the country, Harper has 109 points, Layton is number two and Ignatieff holds third place. The top of our national chart and the Saturn in Harper’s chart, have been under ‘attack’ from Pluto, one of the agents of change. However, Pluto will not actually reach that position until late in 2012, signalling a change at the top ranks of our government. It does look as if Harper will retain his job.

Harper has obviously had some training in public relations and the stiff economist appears more confident and comfortable in his role than when he came on the scene. Harper was born April 30, 1959 in Toronto. His office informed me that he did not know what time he was born back in 2004. I have used a Taurus Ascending chart for him but concentrated primarily on the planetary patterns. I found a Canadian colleague using 1:30 AM for him based on his appearance. This would put his Aquarius Moon on the Ascendant and into his first house. I’d have to agree that this is a strong possible chart for the prime minister.

He turns 52 right after the election, these are some our most productive years. The cycles are not disruptive at that age. The next natural cycle occurs at around age 57.

So let’s look at Ignatieff. He was born May 12, 1947 and also in Toronto. His office did not bother to respond to my request for additional birth data.  He will have his 64th birthday right after the elections.  Naturally I am following the red and blue themes—so Iggy’s planets in red. He has Venus and Mars in Aries, potentially making a statement “I did it my way”. The sound bite in the conservative advertisement “only I speak for the Liberal Party” does echo the independent, potentially aggressive and at times self-involved Aries energy. At its worst Aries is about me and nobody else.

He has much vested in is intellect and intelligence and does have a quick mind; great for thinking on your feet. His Mercury and Sun connect with Pluto of power and control. The troubling connection is his Uranus, which has its notions about what radical changes are best for us with our Venus—i.e. our money; if elected prime minister, he would spend our money rather freely and our taxes would go up, our conservative Saturn in Scorpio is under Ignatieff’s Jupiter—the Santa Claus of the Zodiac.

When he became the leader back in 2008, he had trouble looking at the cameras, and came across as someone who could not look people in the eye. I continue to suspect he has Scorpio rising, those bushy eyebrows and veiled, yet piercing eyes seem to make that statement. It is interesting to observe the soft-spoken leaders in the commercials versus the atrocious shouting at the legislature…

My interview with Rob Hand

Over the course of the summer, I had the priviledge to interview Rob Hand. I first posted this piece on the www.astrologyguild.com website. Rob will be at the Guild in October for two talks and a workshop, if you are in the area, I highly recommend the events.

“Astrology is a discipline which is rooted in a pre-modern, in fact pre-medieval concept of the world. It very strongly implies, that we consider the universe an aspect of a living, conscious, and sentient being. “—Rob Hand

It is interesting to think of a historian, computer software writer, author, lecturer, professor, philosopher, translator and a scholar with the Sagittarian bent for the truth—realize how complex that sounds—and then identify the person as Robert Hand. At a recent conference Rob was introduced as the Stephen Spielberg of astrology, and I asked him how he felt about that. “I don’t like being regarded as the Spielberg of astrology, I am just a human being who has a deep interest and understanding of astrology”, was Rob’s comment during. In fact he might prefer be likened to Johann Sebastian Bach, ‘whose work was revered for its intellectual depth, technical command and artistic beauty’ (comment about Bach sourced from Wikipedia—AM). On second thought just a human being, who happens to be a well-versed and learned.

The origins of words and the history of astrology and how it applies to our lives hold Rob’s interest in astrology after six decades of enquiry. The topics fly by, and I lose track of time as Rob talks equally passionately about the dignities in astrology, his belief system, his recent weight loss (30 pounds is a lot) and paints vivid imagery about the tree of life, Neo-Platonic philosophy and definitions of words…even my usually reliable digital recorder failed to keep track chopping the actual interview portion into 99 separate files each about 2-16 seconds, only one was measured in minutes.

It is easy to see that talking with Rob, who has 51 years of astrological study under his belt, made for a deep, illuminating and educational conversation. You recently relocated to Las Vegas; is it a permanent move and what prompted you to leave Virginia?

Climate was the biggest factor, no humidity, which equates to less arthritic pain. Property values factored in—and a bonus “I now live across the road from the University of Nevada in Las Vegas, which provides some great resources”. While Rob and his wife intend this to be a permanent move, he isn’t willing to say that anything is permanent but their intention is to stay in the desert.

His father’s interest in financial astrology launched his passionate interest in astrology at age 17 back in 1960. They studied together; he recalls his father’s approach unconventional, but profitable in terms of his personal investments. His father was recovering from a heart attack and had plenty of time on his hands. Rob’s approach to astrology from early on was more classical and structured. In university Rob spent an equal amount of time on his studies and on learning astrology. Not much time for sleep by the sounds of it.

An astrology conference in New York in September 1972 proved a milestone in his life—he decided that astrology was what he wanted to do and quit his government job. Naturally some financially lean years followed this choice. Initially he worked with the Astrology Centre in New York but soon ventured out on his own and moved to the Cape Cod area where he had grown up.

In the late 1970’s he began working on astrology software with what was to become Astrolabe. In fact his classic book on Transits was intended as a computerized report. Asked if he would still publish the book today, he said absolutely, he still refers to it. However, if he had the time he would take each text and write three versions based on essential dignities. In fact Essential Dignities is the book floating in his mind; he wrote the bulk of it some years ago but would love to find the time to rework it to reflect his more profound understanding of the premise, the sources and usages from Hellenistic through medieval sources. The works of Guido Bonatti is what he primarily reads these days—in Latin but of course.

Rob’s substantial contribution to astrology earned him a lifetime achievement award at the May 2008 United Astrology Conference. His published works have become standard reference books. The astrological community considers him an icon. His own view is naturally different, while he concedes that with the exception of Chinese astrology he has investigated and studied all of the other branches and kinds of astrology, he remains an enthusiastic student with a fascination of the history and origins of concepts, and as a translator the original meanings of words.

You have written some of the ‘bibles’ in astrology—what if these were to be the surviving works for astrologers some 500 years from now, what would the state of astrology be?

“At this point this is an impossible question to answer because astrology is in a state of transition. If you had only my work as it is at the moment, it would not allow anybody to reconstruct the art. I haven’t written a general introduction. My published work is currently too fragmented to constitute a corpus of astrology. People have written works like that in the past, but I haven’t. Guido Bonatti’s text from the 13th century is one from which you could almost reconstruct astrology, and no modern writer has done that—either through several works or one work. Let me give you some idea, Bonatti begins with a general introduction to astrology, symbolism, the planets, signs and houses, he then proceeds with the theory of applications, separations and aspects—that’s an entire book. He then gets into general principles pertaining to questions, then he gets into horary, then Electional, mundane. His work is fairly complete with a huge natal component and he even ends with a brief treatise of weather forecasting.” Any contemporary astrologers whose work could be used to reconstruct astrology? “No, it requires several people’s work.”

Rob holds a M.A. in History from the Catholic University of America and is in Washington, D.C. and is working on his dissertation for The Catholic University’s Doctor of Philosophy in Medieval and Byzantine Studies. Robert Hand’s original research, manuscript translation, and dissertation concerning astrology in medieval military matters will be the first original work of this kind.

You are working on your dissertation? What is your motivation and what was it when you signed on to do it? What do you see as its value?

“The initial impetus was Kepler College, because they required advanced degrees to teach. All that would have required is a Masters. But I went onto the doctorate because I wanted be an international member of the academic community studying the history of astrology, and I had already become that but I wanted a doctorate to stay there. You may not know this but a fairly large number of doctorates have happened in the astrological community in the last three years. For example Dorian Gieseler Greenbaum has a doctorate in Philosophy from the Warburg Institute at the University of London; and her field was symbolism in Greek Astrology. Nick Campion has a PhD from the University of Bristol. And he is now the head of a department at the University of Wales—the Sophia Center, which is a Masters program on Astronomy and Astrology in art, history and so forth. In our own backyard, Bruce Scofield just got his doctorate… I forget the exact title of the field but it has to do with the ecological impact of sunspots, weather cycles, and again from the consideration of cosmic cycles. His research is bit removed from actual astrology as we know it, but definitely connected to astrology as it could become. And he got his from the University of Massachusetts. Jeffrey Cornelius just got his doctorate from the University of Kent, and that department was Studies in Mysticism. So the doctorates are all in fields that relate to astrology. Mine is actually appears to be a bit more removed because it will be on Medieval History, but in fact the work I am doing will be in history of astrology.”

“Well, academics have been coming to the field of astrology for some time now; and it turns out that fair number of them have actually been very interested in astrology—they just decided to do it in their academic work. The value is twofold, first that for astrology to truly become a profession it needs to become completely grounded in the intellectual culture of the west, the way it hasn’t been since the renaissance. Secondly we have discovered through this process that academia as a whole isn’t hostile toward astrology. They are interested in anything that actually happened, especially the historians. Consequently they are favourably inclined toward the study of it, and astrology’s influence on history and culture has always been grossly underestimated. That is ceasing to be the case. For example I have a number of passages from medieval chroniclers written by people who had nothing to do with astrologers, yet with significant quantities of astrology in them. Your average, well educated Florentine, in the 13th century, was conversant in astrology. That’s a tremendous influence; it is comparable to the influence of Freud on the intelligentsia of the 1920s. Astrology’s influence in the Middle Ages was more widespread and longer lasting. These days to qualify as an intellectual you don’t need to know a whole ‘helluva’ lot about Freud— 80 years ago that wasn’t true. The period during which people were conversant in astrology was several hundred years—beginning about the mid-1200s all the way up into the 1500s. During that time astrology was the closest to mainstream it ever came—it was controversial but it was mainstream.”

So you think that in order for astrology to become grounded it needs to go through academia?

“Not for the sake of becoming respectable. That is not the purpose. That might be an accidental side effect. But there is something to be learned there. For example this is also true of people getting advanced degrees in psychology and other related counselling fields. This tends to give astrologers a better idea about what professionalism means. And to be perfectly honest, we fall short on that score from time to time. The way I like to put it is: no discipline has ever become accepted because the existing disciplines have accepted it. It has always become accepted when it got its internal act together. When it has its own professional structure together, its own professional codes, its own professional journals, and its own modes of communication, when people see that a group is operating with standard canons of professionalism, people begin to treat it is as a profession, even if they have problems with what the group believes in. I offer as an example, Chiropractic, it is still controversial, however Chiropractors are no longer regarded as charlatans and frauds, intent on stealing their bucks. While some people may still think that, most do not.

We had a long conversation about dignities that began with our discussion at the NORWAC conference in May 2011. Rob was talking about how fire was hot, earth dry, air cold and water wet with no secondary qualifier, and how this original idea helped him fully grasp the concept of why summer for example was hot and dry. The beauty of observation, the accuracy of calculations used by the ancient and medieval astrologers continues to hold him in awe. So, can we look forward to a book on Classical Astrology?

Rob thinks that he has some three books floating in his head, and if he is here on the earth-plane long enough, he would like to write them. The one we discussed most was the proper use of dignities, which he continues to find intriguing and extremely valuable in client work. Both of us have Saturn in the 12th when using whole-sign houses, thus we had a conversation about the 12th house being the Joy of Saturn, and whether it was better to have a dignified, debilitated or peregrine Saturn in residence. Rob’s view is that Saturn in Aquarius in the 12th is capable of doing his worst in the house of his Joy. His Saturn in Gemini is peregrine, thus while life hasn’t been a cakewalk, it has quietly worked in his favour with those hidden enemies that we consider to live in our 12th house. Saturn placed here ensures that our enemies are taken care of without our personal intervention. The Joy of the greater Malefic in the most Malefic of houses seems appropriate—giving him additional strength is not a grand idea…

Your Mercury is in detriment and combust—yet you have been a prolific writer, speaker etc.? How would you explain this to students who avoid using the dignities and debilities and would consider that this might imply mental incompetency, poor written and verbal expression etc? After all it is easier to talk about the philosophical nature, the ability to market another’s ideas, etc.

“First of all a debilitated planet is not incompetent, it simply operates strangely. So, Mercury in Sagittarius has trouble with details. It tends to take a giant overview, which is not Mercury’s forte. The reason why I have evolved the ability to do both—and believe me I didn’t have it spontaneously, I tended to be a generalist speaking in vast universal statements without having  much practical application—is because the ruler of Mercury,  Jupiter, is exalted in Cancer and in the first house. And a little bit more obscurely, Cancer and Sagittarius have relationship known as contra-antiscion being equidistant from 0°Libra; and in fact the two planets are close to being in the specific degrees. So when a debilitated planet has a familiarity (a more correct term) with its dignified ruler, the debility is cancelled. And I have discovered it is only cancelled when the individual is cognisant about what he is doing; when he is not, it reverts to debility—because it requires mental awareness.  The ruler gives mental awareness to the process. The philosophical reasons are a bit long-winded and obscure, but there are philosophical reasons for this based on Aristotle. So when the ruler is dignified it gives a capacity to the debilitated planet to do what it is not capable of natively doing. So what I do is I go to the generalities first, and then make my way down to the particulars. I wouldn’t be able to do that if there weren’t that relationship, or it would be much harder. Nothing is ever impossible; it is just very hard—difficult”.

“If you understand essential dignities and debilities without understanding reception, which is the process I have just described, you are not going to get an accurate answer. By the way familiarity means something that connects the two. Aspects are a familiarity; conjunctions are a familiarity, as are antiscia and contra-antiscia have the same Ascensional time…  ”

Your Moon is in its fall in Scorpio, albeit not at the potentially most challenging third degree? This tends to scare contemporary astrological thought which minimizes any categorization into good or bad…your thoughts? It also rules your Ascendant, giving the Moon heightened significance…

“While there are specific degrees of exaltation and debility, it is generally accepted that the entire sign is considered in that condition. The reason why my Moon is not terribly dysfunctional is because it is applying to a conjunction to Mars, which is the ruler of the sign and Mars is in its own sign and highly dignified. But I won’t say my Moon does not have any qualities of the Moon its fall. It does.”

From contemporary perspective: Ascendant in Cancer, Moon rules from its fall can’t be good…

“Well that Moon is applying to a conjunction with its dignified ruler which in turn is trine Jupiter in the first which of course is exalted. That trine actually turns a lot of stuff around in the chart. See that’s the problem with modern astrology, it’s too simple. It leaves things out that actually have a powerful impact.”

“The other problem with modern astrology is the idea that you have to look at everything to get the answer to anything, and that is simply not true. The trick is to know what you need to look at what not, that is the strength of traditional astrology and it does it better than modern astrology.”

Rob spends the bulk of his time talking to his diverse group of clients assisting them toward self-realization with a conference or lecture thrown in most months. When asked how his client base has changed over the decades, he found it difficult to categorize them into groups and kinds, rather that most were geared toward becoming more aware, many with a keen interest in astrology and that many have some basic knowledge of astrology. However, contrary to my expectation, few are practising astrologers.

Rob uses whole sign houses only—Koch was his preference once upon a time. He also thinks that the whole sign houses are gaining wide acceptance thanks to the many sun sign astrologers out there, who have used these as a matter of routine. Rob commented that, for example, Michael Lutin who is also an excellent Sun sign astrologer, teaches his students to work with whole sign houses, which Rob applauds. The system is simple, eloquent and after the centuries still the original and in Rob’s opinion the best. (I personally concur and it is great that Rob validates those of us who are also horoscope writers…not an easy task, by the way)

Rob uses secondary progressions perhaps more than profections, because he finds these illustrate the times the client is in. He also uses the 90-degree dial to decide that the chart he is going to analyze for a client is accurate enough. He has found that when he has the wrong time, he cannot give a good reading for his clients. He still spends about an hour and a bit preparing for a consultation, how else would he have an understanding about who he will be talking to and what the big topics will be. Beyond the two techniques that are considered more modern or contemporary, Rob relies on classical rules and techniques dating to the Arabic and Early European astrologers, uses the seven classical planets plus Uranus, Neptune and Pluto within whole-sign houses.

For example, Black Moon Lilith isn’t featured in his chart work—it is one of the centers of an ellipse and he doesn’t like the math of it plus unless it makes sense or is something he can grasp intuitively, he will leave it be.  He doesn’t use the asteroids or hypothetical points, finding that after the many decades he is able to derive all of the important information using the classical, primary considerations. (FYI, the mean Black Moon Lilith is on his Ascendant—he already has a Scorpio Moon; and Chiron is with his North Node which is conjunct Regulus when he was born.)

While Rob did state that he doesn’t use hypothetical points or the asteroids in his work, he also stated that if he cannot grasp a concept on an intuitive level, he isn’t likely to use it; nor if it doesn’t make sense or isn’t defensible. He finds that the traditional planets and classical techniques—from the early European and Arabic Era—describe the chart and the person it belongs to eloquently.

I wouldn’t say that Chiron is useless, I wouldn’t dare to presume. But I don’t really have a feel for it and I don’t find it necessary.

In your paper “Matter and Form” you discuss the part of Spirit, and how it was used by ancient astrologers—what the soul is here to accomplish.

That was ancient Greek astrologers; the medieval astrologers didn’t know what to do with it. You see this was a taboo subject matter in both Christian and Islamic worlds for astrology.

Do you use Part of Fortune and Part of Spirit charts to illustrate to clients what they came here to do?

“Only experimentally, because I haven’t fully grasped how that is supposed to work. I use certain aspects of the Fortuna chart where the Part of fortune establishes the first house quite commonly in financial matters. But the Spirit chart is harder to grasp for the very simple reason that most people haven’t got that part working. It is a potentiality that most people haven’t attained.”

Based on your paper these two charts and your comment that you advise your clients about the right and wrong way, these two charts would potentially be ideal—at least conceptually—for addressing the issue of why we are here.

“They should be, there is actually the trinity of charts. There is the Fortuna chart, which is a chart at its most primitive and material.  There is the Ascendant chart, which is a general, all-purpose chart—and that’s how we use it.  The Spirit chart would describe how the soul would achieve its highest potential. More accurately, the person would achieve that potential. The reason I correct myself, is to emphasize that you are your soul; you don’t have one. This idea of having a soul is dumb. If you are alive you are a soul. And if you are conscious, you are an intellectual soul. Intellective, actually, is the better word [thinking, reasoning or other mental activity]. But most people don’t live their lives in the spirit in a fashion that is consonant with this spirit chart sufficiently well to prove it is working. You actually have to use it for saints and enlightened beings and people with a great deal of wisdom— that is where you would see it. And, we have no worked out examples from the ancients of this process; we just have some comments that the part of Spirit describes things you do intentionally, when you are being conscious—and that is my language, not theirs, but that is what their language boils down to.”

“I’ll give you an example. If a person is in a career because of family history, it is likely to be shown in the Fortuna chart. On the other hand, if people are evolved to the point that they have chosen a calling, which is truly relevant to them, that will show up in the Spirit chart.” So the vocation is there? “Yes. It is about finding your fulfilment. ”

“One of the theoretical positions I suggest, if I am right about the spirit chart, it that there are no malefics and benefics in the spirit chart. There is only truth. Now here is some further information that leads to that. The Greek name for the part is Kleros Daimon. And the Daimon is an entity that associates with you at birth and tries to show you your proper path. There is are actually two parts to this, the Agathos Daimon and Kakos Daimon. The Agathos Daimon is associated with the good spirit and the 11th house. The Kakos Daimon is associated with the sixth house as you know. ”

So have you looked at your own of Spirit to see what you came here to do?

“Yeah, at the moment, however, it isn’t clear. There are indications that are beginning to point at what that might be… however; I am going to leave it at that.”

The notion of one’s reincarnation as a particular entity and one’s being here to pay for past wrong doings does not sit well with Rob’s understanding and life-long study and contemplation. He thinks that the conventional model of reincarnation is wrong. He talks about the tree of life as a literal concept. When a leaf—a person—falls off the tree it feeds the soil as it disintegrates and merges with the earth. How can it then emerge with its prior incarnation in the memory banks? He states that his belief system mostly reflects Neo-Platonic thinking—it is about the cycle of being. Nous—the perfect image of the One— simultaneously about the idea and the ideal world. He believes the soul chooses the moment that is the best representation of the ideas and ideals the soul holds true. Nous is the highest sphere accessible to the human mind. When something doesn’t make sense or feel intuitively correct, Rob tends to state “I don’t disbelieve…but then I don’t have all the facts yet”. There is a cycle of life, a reason for existence but I don’t like to think that it is about karma we have to endure without choice—we choose our moment.

I was reading Rob’s essay about Matter and Form on his website, and to illustrate the way he tackles concepts, I pulled out an extract from it. “The second definition of soul that we get from Aristotle is that the soul of any living thing is that which makes it that living thing and not some other living thing. Putting this in terms that one can more readily understand, we do not have souls; we are souls. One cannot lose one’s soul while alive because that would be death; one also cannot lose one’s soul and remain alive in either sense of the word soul used here. By this definition the medieval Christian idea of someone selling his soul to the devil makes no sense. What one might be able to do is to become a devotee of the devil, but one is still a soul. This could be what the medieval astrologers and philosophers meant. And the question of one’s having an immortal soul reduces to the following question: “Is what I am, what is uniquely and peculiarly myself, immortal?” I do not know the answer to this. My personal view is that in the way I have just defined it, “not exactly” would be the answer. But also it is not completely untrue.”

Because my recorder didn’t catch our conversation on June 28, I missed your commentary on Karma, reincarnation and your belief system. You talked about the tree of life as literal, and how the leaf that fell of the ‘perfect’ tree was now going to disintegrate and become part of the earth in order to feed the tree. You continued to talk about the nature of the soul in light of this concept… how would you respond and complete the thought.

“I wouldn’t call the tree literal; after all we are not hanging off a large entity made of lignum. Lignum, is of course is what wood, is. A tree is a living entity, which channels life energy up toward a multitude of transitory organs called leaves. Leaves fall off of all trees, but not necessarily in a growing cycle. The so called evergreens are always green, but leaves are falling off. And that all life is related by being on the same tree. But every year a leaf will form at roughly the same spot, not exactly the same but roughly the same. And that the two leaves are connected by coming off the same branch of the tree. They are however not connected in space because they exist in two different spots of time. I am suggesting that this might be a better metaphor for understanding reincarnation than the conventional one, that is, that it is the same entity coming back all the time.

Does this contradict the fact that we are a soul?

“… and we do exist in eternity.  But what exists in eternity is the same soul, not an incarnate one. In other words we are always here—always have been, always will be—but not on Earth. And I don’t mean on other planets. Eternity is the sum total of all possible time. That’s actually what it means, it isn’t my invention. Plato described it very simply: “time is the moving image of eternity.” What people experience as previous incarnations are actually their connections to the leaves on the same branch—through different points in time. That’s the metaphor.”

If you were 17 now, and wanted to study astrology; whose works would you choose and why? Would you choose a teacher, a school or simply study from books?

“At this point, I think it would be difficult to do it from books, because so much of what needs to be known is still transmitted orally. I would probably…this is difficult, I have an aversion to schools personally but that would be the best way.  Picking the right school… You could certainly learn modern astrology from books, but you couldn’t go beyond it. When I say modern I mean 20th century astrology. Basically I learned astrology from books and by talking with other astrologers. Conferences are very valuable—not so much for the lectures— but what takes place between them.

I am going to put you on the spot. You said you would choose a school, so which one?

“At the risk of sounding as if I am a shill for Kepler I am going to say Kepler, because it puts astrology in larger social context.”

What about book recommendations…

“Marion March and Joan McEvers series of books is decent on contemporary astrology. The books on the traditional really haven’t been written yet. There you have study with people or with schools. I would also suggest that one read the works of Ebertin, because there is a clarity of thought in that work that is lacking elsewhere. If people find his work interesting, they might want to study Uranian astrology, however, in my opinion Uranian astrology suffers from being too much into details without concentrating sufficiently on the broad principles. Nevertheless those two schools have certain clarity, which is worth studying. Modern astrology…hmmm… difficult, I feel I have completely digested my personal version of modern astrology.  I think my book, Horoscope Symbols is good for getting a larger than normal view of what symbolism is about—although I would probably expand it quite a bit if I were to write it now. But ultimately, the best answer I can give is that students all have different styles, aesthetic tastes, and so forth. I think most will pick teachers who speak to them, and that is as good a criterion as any. I would also recommend the Faculty of Astrological Studies, which has some sound traditional components. By leaving others out, I am not implying they are incompetent; merely I have some personal experience of Kepler and the Faculty in the U.K.”

Teaching dignities…we at the CAAE felt it was an important inclusion to our curriculum…

“I can understand why modern astrologers don’t use dignities. The modern version is so damaged, it is wrong. It is better not to teach it, than to teach a broken version of it. Also if you were to study the medieval texts without some grounding in contemporary, you’d practise astrology as it was practised centuries ago, and that is not appropriate—this is not the Middle Ages. “

What keeps you enthused, excited about astrology after the many decades?

“I keep reaching new understanding of it; it is an endless learning process. That is it simply. For a Sagittarian there is no end.”

I concur.  How would you like to be remembered?

“As a good person, who tried to attain wisdom.  Astrology is incidental to that. Astrology has proven that there is wisdom to be attained. And it is not what materialists teach.”

What would you still like to accomplish

Time permitting, Rob would still love to take a walking tour of Britain—the country side, find to write a book about the use of dignities for the contemporary astrologer, complete his dissertation by the end of 2012…

Layton and Duceppè

Gilles Duceppè has Sun, Mercury and Venus in Cancer with his Mars in Gemini with Uranus, he like Iggy will be turning 64 this year. Layton as I have talked about for a couple of years is also a Cancer Sun with Moon and Saturn paired together in Virgo coupled with an idealistic Mars-Neptune pairing. Layton is 61. In my earlier write up last week, I stated that Layton has the ideal chart for an opposition leader but could not have anticipated his gain of popularity in Quebec. I wonder if he was cheering when Ignatieff started drumming home the message that he would not form a coalition.

The poll to be released tomorrow is pegging Layton as the most popular federal leader in Quebec… I seem to recall that there are 75 seats up for grabs in the populous province, and now Layton’s party might be in a position to win more… Astrologically speaking, it is interesting that Harper and Iggy are both Taurus Suns with strong Aries. These two both have a Cancer Sun just like the Canada; Layton has his Mercury with Canada’s Mercury and can appear to speak on our behalf with authenticity. Duceppè has his Mars and Uranus on Canada’s Venus and his talk about Quebec as a nation, resonates with that energy, and next June that issue might crop up again…Layton has so many authentic connections to Canada’s chart that I am not terribly surprised his message is well-received by people of Quebec, who might all also prefer not to separate.

It might be interesting to see Layton as the leader of the opposition; I think he would keep the Conservatives honest. However all the polls could be wrong, maybe the silent majority opts to vote and go green, go all NDP… Canadians have wiped out parties before. It is such a shame that Canada has this regional voting system rather than popular vote; the result might be more to the liking of typical Canadians, who want a coalition and MPs to work together, that is what we pay them to do, find a way to work it out.

Approaching the Astrologer - Part 1 of 3

There is a simple reason why most people generally cannot tell the difference between astrology, palmistry and psychic services. They never had the opportunity to be educated in it. Most people just never see themselves trying to read up in order to know more about these subjects. So they never get the best of astrology or the astrologers. Thus people don't know enough to talk about astrology yet they can't stop NOT talking about what little they know about it. Well no more. By the time you go through this article, you should be in a better position to relate to an astrologer more effectively.

To begin with, every astrologer needs to have the following minimum data: your sex at birth date birth time and birth place. Any astrologer doing your birth chart without these would not be doing astrology. It's just the basics. It's astrology. With palmistry you offer your palm. With astrology you offer your birth particulars. If your astrologer doesn't ask for them then he might be using some other model for his predictions but it won't be astrology. He might even be pretending. Also the sad part is if you don't have this data then don't go to astrologers. Go to a psychic or some other diviner using other models for their prediction. So do you have your birth data? Check this out first before you even search for an astrologer. And you should have them as reliable as possible because the honest astrologer's work will only be as reliable as the data that you provide him to work with.

The basic idea of needing your birth particulars is because he needs to calculate the astronomical positions for the time that you were born. How did the galaxy look like? That is what the horoscope is about. So the astrologer uses the birth particulars so that he is able to see the configuration of the planets in the zodiac during the precise moment of birth. Astrology uses the picture of the galaxy at your moment of birth as its model to make predictions. Candle-reading diviners use the "configurations" of the melting wax of the burning candle to "see" the things that they interpret into their predictions tea readers see how the tea leaves position themselves at the bottom of your cup to make their predictions and astrology uses the galactic configuration of the planetary bodies for its predictions. So imagine what happens when your astrologer does not get reliable birth particulars to work with? He simply does not get to see the accurate picture of the galactic configuration during the subject's actual birth moment and he simply would not be able to reliably relate what he sees to your true life experiences. So what do you want to do? You want your birth particulars (especially your birth time) as correctly possible.

Now one of the most riveting things in any personal horoscope is what we call the Ascendant. This is the precise degree in the chart that is the "moment of physical birth" based on the time and place of birth you provide. So aside from accurate birth time you want to give the accurate place of birth as well. So the place of birth should be as accurate as possible as well. Knowing the town will do. But if the town is not on the map then give the closest town on the map in order for the astrologer to obtain the latitude and longitude of the birth place. That's why he needs to know the town in the first place. But if you can give him the latitude and longitude of your birth place straight away he won't complain.

What happens if you don't even know your birth date? Then really don't go to an astrologer unless you're ready to go a lengthy process called Birth Rectification. That might take hours if not weeks plus a lot of interaction with you to confirm your most likely chart. What the diligent astrologer (difficult to find them for free) would have to do is to keep on fine-tuning some of your horoscopic positions. He would probably start by placing your ascendant somewhere he thinks relevant and with that he'd try to read the chart as a whole and see if it fits with your life events. If it doesn't or he thinks it's not conclusive enough he'd continue adjusting the chart with other "what if" positions. This part of the work is so specialized that some astrologers offer this service only to other professional astrologers who need this work done for their very important clients.

A Basic Introduction To Astrology

Astrology is without a doubt one of the most popular of the occult sciences in the world today. Think I'm kidding? All you have to do is open your front door, pick up the daily newspaper, open it up to the leisure section and there you will find your daily horoscope. In addition to newspapers, you'll also find this information in magazines, online, on the television and just about anywhere you go. In this article, we're going to cover the basics of astrology, as a comprehensive overview is way beyond the scope of any one article. Hopefully, after reading this, you'll have a pretty good idea if this is something that you want to get into. It is a most fascinating occult science.

The basis of Astrology stems from the planets in our solar system, as well as our own son. When we're born, these planets are all in a certain position. This is what determines our astrological sign at the time of our birth.. The sun and the planets all govern a different area of our lives.. This all goes back to Greek Mythology, as the Greek Gods all ruled different planets.

While the basics of astrology are actually very simple, putting together an astrological chart is not so easy. See, not only is your astrological chart based upon where the sun and the planets were at the time of your birth, but it is also determined by the actual spot on Earth where you were born. So two people born on the same day can have two completely different astrological charts. That's why astrology can get so complex.

Putting together the chart, however, is only half the battle. Once the chart is put together, there is the matter of interpreting the chart. This is further complicated by the fact that a person's chart actually changes over time because the position of the planets change over time. That is why we as human beings change over time and why many people can start out their lives as hardened criminals and end up going on to become men of God. The planets can play strange tricks on us as we go on.

Astrology readings are not just about predicting the future. They also tell us a lot about a person's character and what they're interests are. This information comes from the various houses of the Zodiac, which can take a literal lifetime to study.

As someone who has studied astrology for over 20 years now, I have never found the study to be dull. I have personally evolved so much over the 49 years that I have been on this planet, and there is no question that the planets have played a major role in my own development as a person.

If you're interested in learning more about Astrology, you can find an excellent resource in my signature that's loaded with free instruction that I try to update regularly.

Astrology is a fascinating occult science and one that I have enjoyed now for a very long time.

To YOUR Divination Success,

Attracting Success Through Astrology Learning

Do you believe in luck? Do you believe that one's astrological sign can affect one's successes and failures in life in general? Do you think that if one learns to understand his position in astrology that he could use this in begetting success and removing failures from one's life?

If you answered yes to all three questions, you're either an astrologer or into astrology learning. Studying astrology and its many intricacies is popular because people are in the belief that one's astrological sign, one's zodiac sign, and even one's birth date can tell if the person bearing such a sign or born into this specific date and time will become successful or will fail in life. It is further said that one is able to attract success by learning the personality strengths and weaknesses of one's sign or the days that could be "bad" for a business deal or a job interview.

In other words, attract success through astrology learning. To start off, here are a few tips on how to learn astrology the best way and be able to carry out attracting success:

1. Be warned that learning basic or advanced astrology will not guarantee one that this knowledge will bring him the success he so long for. Think of astrology as a guide, as a kind of good advice that one may or may not take. Man was given freewill for a reason and this is one time that one could use this gift. You still have the last say. Remember, the stars are only there to become your guide; you still make your own destiny.

2. If astrology learning is what you're aiming for, be a consistently good student. Consistently because your study of astrology shouldn't be a selective one. Learn the basics first. Master it then move on to the advanced lessons. Master it. Memorize basic information. Use your senses. Open your third eye. Test the accuracy of your intuition. Listen to it. Be good at listening to it.

3. Be open-minded. Don't close your mind to mastering just one branch of astrology and in the process become biased to that branch which you were able to master. If you can, learn and master everything there is to learn and master about every branch or sub-branch there is in the pseudo-science that is astrology.

Now that you're ready to become the best student of astrology, enroll in a class now. Try looking up classes over the Internet. You could also check the local directory's Yellow Pages if there are astrologers in your area that are offering one-on-one astrology learning classes. However, if classroom-based lessons aren't your thing you could always buy a book on astrology and self-study. That could always work and just might get you to attract enough success. Good luck!
